Actor Homer Gere has become the latest performer to disclose that he stutters. The 26-year-old is the son of Oscar-nominated actor Richard Gere and actor Carey Lowell, best known for her starring role on Law & Order from 1996 to 2001. He was raised in Pound Ridge, New York, and graduated from Brown University in 2024.

Although he originally had no intention of entering the family business, his career has quickly taken off. He appeared as Dylan Reid in the third season of the HBO drama series Euphoria in 2026, playing the love interest of Sydney Sweeney's character. He was later cast in Ryan Murphy's adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel The Shards, which was released in August 2026 on Hulu and Disney+. He portrays Robert Mallory, his first leading role.

In June 2026, it was announced that Gere had joined the cast of the upcoming Oliver Stone film White Lies, which also includes Michael Douglas, Josh Hartnett, Ellen Barkin and Willem Dafoe.

With the launch of The Shards, much attention has focused on the connection between Gere and his co-star Kaia Gerber. Gere's father, Richard Gere, and Gerber's mother, supermodel Cindy Crawford, were married from 1991 to 1995 at the height of their stardom. Kaia Gerber was born in 2001 to Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber. The September 2026 issue of Vogue features the younger Gere and Gerber on the cover, some 34 years after Richard Gere and Crawford appeared on the magazine's November 1992 cover.

In the accompanying Vogue article about the two young stars, Gere discusses how he manages his stuttering:

“Gere has a stutter, which he has learned to mask following years of speech therapy in middle school and a decade of practice since then. In that premonitory moment when he feels like he is about to get stuck on a word, he pivots. ‘What I’ll do is change the word at the last minute,’ he explains, ‘so if I’m going to stutter on rock, I’ll switch it to stone. I’m constantly playing a game of cat and mouse with my mind.’”

Homer Gere also has an older half-sister, actress Hannah Dunne, who is the granddaughter of the late writer Dominick Dunne. Dominick Dunne was featured in one of our 2010 Celebrity Corner articles, “Famous Brothers Didn't Let Stuttering Stop Them.”

As Homer Gere becomes increasingly visible on the Hollywood scene, the stuttering community is fortunate to have such a high-profile person helping to put a human face on stuttering.
