Stuttering Foundation Workshops Have a Worldwide Ripple Effect
This year, the Stuttering Foundation and Boston University celebrate a significant milestone: the 30th intensive workshop dedicated to strengthening the skills of speech-language pathologists who work with children who stutter.
Twenty clinicians from around the world were selected to attend Working with School-Age Children Who Stutter and Their Families, held June 1–5 in Boston. The workshop provides advanced clinical training while encouraging participants to learn from one another’s professional and cultural perspectives.
Leading this year’s workshop are Ali Berquez, MSc, PG Dip. CT (Oxford), BRIEF Cert. SF Practice, MRCSLT, and Sarah Delpeche, MSc, BSc (Hons), MRCSLT, of the Michael Palin Centre in London.
The workshop’s influence extends far beyond the clinicians in the room. Participants return home better equipped to support children who stutter and their families—and to share their knowledge with colleagues, schools and communities. This year’s class includes clinicians already providing stuttering therapy from Colorado to Georgia and from Canada and Croatia to Poland and South Africa.
Over the years, more than 600 clinicians have completed the Boston Workshop program. Each has helped create a ripple effect, passing along knowledge that strengthens care and understanding for generations of people who stutter.
With more than 80 million people worldwide affected by stuttering, the value of this shared expertise is immeasurable. Thirty workshops represent not only an enduring commitment to professional education, but also a growing global network dedicated to helping people who stutter communicate with greater confidence and freedom.
