Former Destiny’s Child star Michelle Williams topped the charts with the group’s hit song, “Survivor” in 2001. The song, which encourages people not to give up, is an inspiring message to others like Michelle who have dealt with stuttering.

Williams rose to fame in the 2000s, along with fellow group members Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland as the R&B group Destiny’s Child. The trio would go on to become one of the best-selling female groups of all time until their split in 2005. Though it never came out in her singing, Williams grew up with a stutter.

Overcoming her stutter was not easy. In an interview with Contact Music, Williams reflected on when her stutter was most apparent. "I used to stutter as I began to learn new words,” she said. “My mind was thinking so much faster than what my mouth could say.”

Since Destiny’s Child, Williams has appeared in Broadway shows, television programs and Dancing with the Stars. She continues to collaborate with different artists on upcoming music projects and performs her own music as well. She sang for the President and First Lady in The Gospel Tradition: In Performance at the White House. Despite her struggle with stuttering, Williams didn’t shy away from the spotlight and went on to have an illustrious and inspiring career.
