Listed below are various centers and clinics which offer summer programs in the USA and Canada. The Stuttering Foundation of America provides this list only to help in locating a summer program which might be able to assist you in treating stuttering. The Stuttering Foundation of America does not warrant the competency of these programs nor guarantee their treatment.

Three week intensive therapy clinics are held in May and July for adults and mature adolescents. 10 week, semi-intensive clinics are also held 2-evenings per week beginning in September and January. On completion of a clinic, follow up is arranged according to individual need. Follow up may be done in collaboration with a local speech-language pathologist and/or by phone, audio recordings, and email. Canadian residents with a provincial health card may have the course paid for by the province. For clients attending from outside of Canada, please call, e-mail, or write for dates and fees.

ISTAR offers 3-week intensive clinics (6 hours per day) for adults in January, May and July; for adults and older teens (15+) in July; and young teens (11-15) in July. A 4-week intensive clinic (3 hours per day) for children aged 7-11 and their families is offered in August. There are extended therapy programs available throughout the year for preschool children and others for whom intensive clinics are not suitable. Refresher clinics for individuals or small group maintenance sessions are scheduled throughout the year. Summer camp July 10-13, 2009 for children between the ages of 7-15 years (their parents, siblings, and friends are welcome) will be held at Silver Lake Forestry Centre, South of Peachland the Okanagan Valley. Call for exact dates. Priority is given to children and families from British Columbia. The objective is to have a summer fun outdoor experience that is free from ridicule and that provides a nurturing and supportive environment for children who stutter and their families. No formal speech therapy is given. However, information seminars will be given on topics such as bullying and teasing, self-advocacy, school issues, and living with a child who stutters. Five day overnight summer camp for children who stutter ages 7-13 held August 11-15, 2010. Sponsored by Chmela Fluency Center, WDSRA, SRACLC, Northwestern University and the SFS, this camp is held in a Northwest Suburb of Chicago and provides a full camp experience in addition to developing more assertive, confident, and effective methods of communication. Camp Speak Up provides a small clinician to camper ratio. Camp Speak Up is an intensive hands-on CEU training opportunity for clinicians. Graduate students provide assistance to clinicians. A week-long residential program for teenagers between 13-18 years old will be held June 6-12, 2010 at The Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Clinic at The University of Iowa in Iowa City. The Program is designed to give teenagers who stutter a safe and supportive place in which to "let stuttering out." Our goal is to help teens develop their own policies about speaking and stuttering; how to make changes; managing the social and emotional challenges; and what they want their SLPs and parents to do to help and how to ask for help. $600.00 fee includes room, board, therapy and all recreational costs. Offers three programs for children and teens in the summer and programs for adults in May and January. All programs are held in Boston area. These intensive three week programs integrate fluency shaping (motor skills) with stuttering modification (attitude modification) techniques. Weekly follow-up sessions are scheduled for a minimum of 3 months following the intensive program. Long-term support is ongoing. Additionally, for children, we offer weekly parent counseling sessions and support to the public school clinician following the program. Partial scholarships may be available. Date: Two mornings (Tues-Thurs or Mon-Wed) a week, June 28-July 23, 2010. Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Location: Worcester State College, Ghosh Science & Technology Buidling, 486 Chandler St., Worcester, MA 01602 This four week camp is filled with individual and group sessions for children and teens who stutter. Parent participation is required for preschool and elementary age children. The camp will focus on ways to help participants better manage their communication. Cost: $220.00. Requests for a payment schedule or sliding scale may be made directly to the clinic director. The camp will be run by Kenneth S. Melnick, Ph.D., BRS-FD and Joan E. Butterworth, M.S., CCC-SLP, BRS-FD. Dr. Melnick and Ms. Butterworth are ASHA certified and licensed speech-language pathologists who are also board certified in fluency disorders.

First session is July 9-18, 2010. Second session is July 23 - August 1, 2010. A summer residential camp/clinic for children ages 6 to 16 with speech and hearing difficulties. There are two ten-day sessions in the Mountains of Weston, Oregon. Offers intensive speech therapy. Campers are encouraged to use & carry over their newly acquired skills 7 days a week through a full range of camp activities. The Univ. of Utah Stuttering Treatment and Research Center offers an intensive stuttering clinic for adults and adolescents (ages 15 and older). The intensive clinic is held in mid August of each year. The clinic runs weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for two weeks and includes approximately 65 hours of treatment. The fee is $1700 for the 2-week clinic.
