Listed below are various centers and clinics which offer intensive therapy programs in the USA and Canada. The Stuttering Foundation of America provides this list only to help in locating a clinic or center which might be able to assist you in treating stuttering. Three week intensive therapy clinics are held in May and July for adults and mature adolescents. 10 week, semi-intensive clinics are also held 2-evenings per week beginning in September and January. On completion of a clinic, follow up is arranged according to individual need. Follow up may be done in collaboration with a local speech-language pathologist and/or by phone, audio recordings, and e-mail. Canadian residents with a provincial health card may have the course paid for by the province. For clients attending from outside of Canada, please call, e-mail, or write for dates and fees.

Six three-week intensive programs are offered six times per year followed by a one year program of maintenance during which the clients are seen on a weekly basis for the first month following treatment and on a progressively fading basis thereafter. These programs are offered during the months of May, June, July, August, October, and November. The July and August programs are typically reserved for high schoolers with the remaining programs for adults. The fee for the three-week intensive program is $500 Canadian for residents of Ontario. Out of province clients are charged an additional $200 Canadian. The fee includes approximately 90 hours of therapy time during the intensive course and all follow-up maintenance meetings. There is no fee for the initial assessment for residents of Ontario; however, out of province assessments usually cost about $100. Fees may be waived in exceptional circumstances. ISTAR offers 3-week intensive clinics (6 hrs per day) for adults in January, May and July; for adults and older teens (15+) in July; and young teens (11-15) in July. A 4-week intensive clinic (3 hrs per day) for children ages 7-11 and their families is offered in August. There are extended therapy programs available throughout the year for preschool children and others for whom intensive clinics are not suitable. Refresher clinics for individuals or small group maintenance sessions are scheduled throughout the year. This intensive one-week clinic, suitable for adults and children as young as eight years old, integrates both Fluency Shaping and Stuttering Modification skills. After the intensive clinic, the rest of the program is completed at home with carefully structured follow-up that is monitored weekly by telephone for a least one year. Clinic offers affordable 1 hour individual therapy for ages preschool to adult. The clinic currently takes place on Monday & Wednesday afternoons with appointment times at 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. on either days. The clinic is run on a semester schedule providing 12 sessions. Offers three programs for children in the summer and programs for adults in May and January. All programs are held in Boston. These intensive four-week programs integrate fluency shaping (motor skills) with stuttering modification (attitude modification) activities. Participants explore their attitudes and beliefs about themselves, stuttering and communication as they learn ways to better manage their speech in their everyday lives and reduce avoidance behaviors. Transfer activities include extensive use of the telephone, community activities and public speaking opportunities. Weekly follow-up sessions are scheduled for a minimum of 3 months following the intensive program. Long-term support is ongoing. Additionallly for children, weekly parent couseling sessions and support to the public school clinician follwing the program. Partial scholarships are offered. Eight three week intensives are conducted throughout each year with four being scheduled during the busy summer months and consist of 100+ hours of individual and small group interaction. It is appropriate for adults, teens and pre teens as young as age 12. A maximum of eight clients is accepted into each program. The intensive portion of treatment is followed up with two months of structured activities that are included in the initial fee. Many other options for follow up support are also available, and there are several options for financing. Also offer a four week intensive clinic for children ages 8-11. ADOLESCENTS AND ADULTS Integrates both suttering modification and fluency shaping techniques. Limited to 5 total participants (over the age of 13) per sessions, with three sessions offered each year (summer, fall, and spring). Generally, there is a 40 hour intensive therapy program offered with follow-up services include weekly therapy sessions delivered through telepractice or a traditional model. Call, e-mail, or write for dates and fees. CLINIC FOR CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES This program is for children (ages 6-13) and families at different points in the therapy process. Parents and children participate in a 12 hour clinic over two days. Children participate in trial therapy, offered generally in groups, with the goal of introducing therapy or continuing an ongoing therapy program. Parents participate in education and group counseling sessions during this clinic. Parents and children can participate in follow-up clinics through telepractice or traditional models. Programs include: MOTHER GOOSE PROGRAM (Preschool): This has been designed to promote use of communication skills in a natural social environment. Language-rich projects and activities stimulate speech growth. Small group setting provides intensive language stimulation from clinicans & peers. Discussions w/parents after sessions help to utilize language techniques in the home environment. Meet once a week for 45 minutes. Most group members also receive one 30-minute individual session per week based on his/her individual needs. This session complements the group goals & focuses more specifically on the individual needs of each child. RAINBOW READINESS (kindergarten through 3rd grade): Group & individual language experiences. Groups meet once a week for 45-minutes w/the option of an individual session one time per week for one-half hour. CLASS (junior high and high school ages): Groups provide opportunities to work on individual skills as well as practicing communication with a small group of peers. Sessions last 45 minutes. COMMUNICATION COUNCIL FOR ADULTS: Provides communication practice using communication enhancing strategies, problem solving difficult speaking situations, practica and use of modification strategies. The University of Utah Stuttering Treatment and Research Center offers an intensive stuttering clinic for adults and adolescents (ages 15 and older). The intensive clinic is held mid August of each year. The clinic runs weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for two weeks and includes approximately 65 hours of treatment. The fee is $1700 for the 2-week clinic.
